Your sight is something sweet
like we might see when the sky is red and green.
A quiet pulse, a steady beat,
the softest hues I've ever seen.
You're the sun when it retreats,
beneath the jade and velvet sheen.
Adoring the night where our colors meet,
in a calming space somewhere in between.
This poem was written by me in 2022 after we went shelling during a sunset.
When I reflect on our love, I think of the colors it brought into my world. I often compare them to the hues of a sunset, especially red and green. My choice of green and jade actually holds meaning besides being my favorite color. During some sunsets, a rare phenomenon called the “green flash” appears, when a brief pulse of green light pulses for only a moment. To me, that green flash symbolizes the rare love we found in each other. Furthermore, I see us as the night and the sun. Our contrasting personalities, like opposing colors in the sky, meet in a moment that is brilliant and calming like the meeting of day and night at sunset.
